Who We Are and Why We Are Different
CALL is a non-profit organization established to direct individual donations to help municipalities initiate and advance certified greenhouse gas reduction initiatives and improve the sustainability of their communities.
CALL’s charter is to:
- Support and develop initiatives to increase awareness of climate change and of local actions that can be undertaken to help control it
- Support initiatives and projects by municipalities and other local government entities to understand their emission levels and plan for meaningful reductions
- Fund specific projects that will result in certifiable reductions in greenhouse gases (GHGs)
The active participation of local communities will be crucial to implementing innovative changes in the way Americans procure, use and manage energy. While individual action can be perceived by the average citizen as too small to have significant impact on the amount of GHG emissions, community action can be significant.
Local governments have to take the lead in implementing initiatives resulting in visible changes, thus motivating citizens to pursue private conservation efforts.
The consensus of the vast majority of scientists working in this area is that we will need to maintain the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere well below 500ppm, and preferably below 450ppm to avoid drastic climate changes. For the U.S. this will require a reduction of today’s emissions to 80% less than they were in 2000.
At this site you can:
- Learn more about global warming, carbon trading, and emission reduction
- Calculate how much CO2 your personal and business activity is putting into the atmosphere
- Purchase carbon credits to offset any business or personal activity or your entire carbon footprint
- Propose projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in your community or region
- Get involved in programs and projects to reduce CO2 and other greenhouse gases (GHGs)
- Register as a municipality, county, or other agency, nonprofit organization, business, or individual to participate in our programs
